The Human Settlements System (HSS) is a national housing subsidy programme that is administered by the South Africa Department of Human Settlements (DHS). The HSS aims to provide affordable housing to low-income households in South Africa. The HSS offers two types of housing subsidies:
- The Breaking New Ground (BNG) subsidy and the Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP). The BNG subsidy is a grant that is used to build new housing units for low-income households.
- The FLISP subsidy is a loan that is used to help low-income households purchase existing housing units.
How to apply for a housing subsidy online using HSS Online Housing Subsidy System
- Go to the HSS Online Housing Subsidy System website
- Click on the “Register” Icon.
- Enter your personal details, including your name, contact details, and email address.
- Create a password and confirm it.
- Click on the “Submit” button.
- You will receive an email with a verification code.
- Enter the verification code in the designated field on the website.
- You will be logged in to the system.
- Click on the “Apply for Housing Subsidy” button.
- Select your province and municipality.
- Select the type of housing subsidy you are applying for.
- Enter your household income and asset information.
- Upload your supporting documents, such as your ID number, proof of income, and proof of residence.
- Click on the “Submit” button.
Your application will be processed and you will be notified of the status of your application via email. You can check the status of your housing subsidy application by logging in to the HSS Online Housing Subsidy System website and clicking on the “My Housing Subsidy” button.
