To ensure that a security company is legitimately registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA), you can follow a detailed process to verify their registration status. This is crucial, as it is a legal requirement for both security companies and their employed security officers to maintain valid registration with PSiRA. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to verify a security company’s registration with PSiRA:

  1. Access the PSiRA Website: Go to the official PSiRA website, which can be found at www.psira.co.za.
  2. Navigate to Business Verification: On the PSiRA website, look for the “Online Services” section and click on “Business Verification.”
  3. Choose Verification Method: You will be presented with two options for verification:

    a. Enter PSIRA Number: If you have the PSIRA number (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority number) or ID number of the individual associated with the security company, enter it in the respective field.

    b. Search By Company Name: If you don’t have the specific PSIRA number but know the name of the security company you want to verify, you can search for it by the company name.

  4. Enter Captcha Code: To ensure that you are a real user and not a computer program, you will be prompted to enter a Captcha code. Type in the characters as they appear in the Captcha image.
  5. Submit the Verification Request: After entering the required information and the Captcha code, click on the “Submit” button to initiate the verification process.
  6. Review the Results: The system will process your request and display the results of the verification. This will indicate whether the security company is registered with PSiRA and provide relevant details regarding its registration status.

It’s essential to perform this verification process as mandated by the law. Before engaging the services of a security company, it’s your responsibility to confirm that both the security company and the security officers they employ are in compliance with PSiRA regulations. This ensures that you are dealing with a legitimate and registered entity, guaranteeing your safety and the quality of security services provided.
