The union believes that taking up the aims to balance the professional and trades union aspects of members lives is in the long term interests of members and society at large. It ranks amongst the largest unions affiliated to the Congress of South African Trades Unions (COSATU); and is also a member of the Education International, an international trades union coordinating body organising workers in the educational sector with over 23 million members.
